Last night, just as we sat down for our humble dinner, my stepbrother and stepsister returned home, arms full of shopping bags and laughter. I offered for us all to eat together, but they refused, retreating to their room with barely a glance. Left with my mother and a pot of plain porridge, I couldn’t help but wonder: why is our family so divided, and where has fairness disappeared to?
